  • Hi Patrick,
i hope you have a measurement device. Here is a instructions manual.

Wo ist das Problem, bei Anfragen Groß-und Kleinschreibung/Punkt und Komma zu beachten? So was fällt bei mir unter Höflichkeit.

  • Hi Stefan, thanks for you response.

As far as i can translate te manual i can have measured the following results

Green heating block - nothing measured
    2x Thermal fuse = OK
    Thermosensor 118,2
    Yellow 54 ohm
    Red thermosensor - nothing measured
    Antriebsmotor 260 ohm
    Solenoidspulen 2,36 Kohm

    Does this makes anyting clear?

This makes no sense. If the heating block is broken, it can`t be hot. And the red thermosensor is also broken

  • You are 100% right.

The top heater is not heating, the heat i felt was from the U form heater at the back.
I felt when the device was screwed back together, so it looked like the silver plate for the cups was heating.
    But it is not.

I dont measure anything from the sensor ( marked red )
or do i need to detached it from the PCB and from the back heater before measuring.

I gues my top heater ( thermoblock is defective )
Is there anyway to fix this or does it need to be replaced.
It has a mark of 6mm written so i think it is a 6 mm ( old version )

    Thank you in advanced.

You have to measure it exactly linke the other Thermosensor 118,2

  • Hi Stefan, i have managed to fix it!!!!! i am so Happy :1f602: :1f602: :1f602:

It does not deserve any credits but this is what i have done.
The top thermoblock has a U form heating pipe.

When i measured it it was dead. i have measured voltage when it was on and i was getting around 148 volt.
So i was sure the heating pipe was dead.

I took a peace of metal ( to sink nails in wood ) and a gave it 7 strokes with a hammer ( gently )
I measured again and i was getting results.

I turned on the machine and it was working again!!!!

I am so happy, i do not know how long this will work but i now know what is the defect.

Thank you for all your help!

  • Apart from your "repair" method, the thermoblock has not only the u-form heater at the top, but also the same on the underside. (As long it really is an ESAM, the older EAM have only one heating coil on the block)

It is very common for these thermoblocks to become defective in one half first. It then takes longer to heat up and gives lower coffee temperature.

Therefore you should measure the "green thermoblock" resistance a second time.
If it now is 80 Ohms, you still have an only half-way working thermoblock and only half the power it should be.

  • My joy was for a verry short time,
1 day after use the machine wasn't heating anymore.

I am going to find a cheap replacement 6mm thermoblock.

I bought a second hand esam 5400 perfecta for 70 euro.
so i can drink coffee for now : )

I have one issue with the esam 5400 but i will start a new threath for it
